A small yet important state, Delaware is not immune to the potential problems that might plague the rest of the country (and the world), and so some level of protection is recommended. For those who are living in a nice apartment making their way in the world, renters insurance is one of the best ways to ensure your lifestyle regardless of what chance might throw your way. We recommend it for practically everyone, and as such we investigated the cheapest rates in the state to help you make the right choice and save some money.
Here are the five cheapest renters insurance providers operating in Delaware:
The Five Cheapest Quotes:
While Delaware is a small state and won’t see much variance in terms of likelihood of natural disaster, certain areas might be prone to more crime than others. This factor, alongside what specific apartment you live in and your lifestyle might mean that your results may vary from ours. Nonetheless, we’re confident that these are, in general, your best options.
The number listed next to each provider is the average annual rate for a standard policy.
1) State Farm: $158
On average the cheapest provider by a noticeable margin, State Farm still offers some additional discounts for bundling or installing safety equipment in your apartment. For this low price, you will be able to enjoy not only low prices but a great level of coverage as well, and their loss-of-use coverage usually covers two-years, which is far more than what many other policies offer.
They do occasionally have issues providing water and sewage backup coverage, so if your apartment is at special risk of that you may want to look elsewhere. Additionally, some people have had issues getting claims, but they are in the minority. You may wish to keep better records when working with them.
You can expect the following working with State Farm:
- An easy quoting and onboarding process.
- A commitment to regularly bringing you the lowest rate possible.
- Above-average expensive items coverage that will more than likely get you back the full worth of your lost possessions.
2) Amica: $181
A company built on the pillars of inexpensive rates and customer satisfaction, Amica is another provider that will be able to provide you and your apartment with a standard level of coverage for a low rate. And they back up their claims: among all providers we reviewed over the course of our research, Amica had the happiest and best-serviced customers. That doesn’t come easily and is something you should value highly.
Amica isn’t perfect, though, and you won’t be able to expect the full customization options or massive level of coverage much more expensive policies will be able to provide. There are also some points of confusion and a lack of some helpful resources that might hinder you when going through the process.
You can expect the following working with Amica:
- A claims experience that will leave you feeling relieved and secure.
- Accessibility to help, and you can even get live chat service.
- Discounts for bundling with their well-reviewed auto insurance options.
3) Allstate: $227
Another insurance company known across the country for their low annual rates and near-universal accessibility, Allstate is a great choice for those looking for a cheap and simple plan with few additional options or frills. If you don’t want to think too much further about your renters insurance but need it for one reason or another, Allstate is where you should look first.
There are a few tradeoffs, and not surprisingly they don’t have that level of customization other providers offer, and there have been quite a few customer service complaints against them in various departments.
You can expect the following working with Allstate:
- Excellent water protection that floats above the competition.
- A widespread company structure that you can rely on to be stable.
- Additional flood (an important consideration in Delaware) and personal umbrella insurance if you are interested.
4) Liberty Mutual: $304
An above-average firm in about every metric while still being affordable for most families (if not the most affordable), Liberty Mutual will be able to provide you with all the coverage you could reasonably expect from a policy, giving you both peace of mind and peace of bank account.
You may not want to partner with them for other things (their auto coverage has some service complaints) and their premiums are still above average no matter how you look at them, but they might still be worth the time and effort for quite a few renters.
You can expect the following working with Liberty Mutual:
- A quick and easy-to-understand online quoting system.
- Partnerships with many organizations, and if you happen to belong to one of them you will likely be eligible for a discount.
- Optional coverages such as jewelry, high-ticket items, identity theft, electronics, and water damage.
5) Nationwide: $371
Usually a more premium option, and on average the most expensive provider to still make this list, Nationwide generally lets you do more with your policy when it comes to customization and even lets you customize the policies on particular items or item groups. You will also be able to rely on a range of discounts and even coverages that extend to your property outside of the apartment.
They might not be the choice for you and your apartment, however, if you just want simple coverage for a low price. They simply aren’t designed for that. You also could be concerned about their low default payouts for expensive items.
You can expect the following working with Nationwide:
- Helpful agents that can answer any questions you might have.
- Optional water and sewage backup, enhanced valuables, earthquake, and theft extension coverages.
- A thorough quoting process to ensure you get the most accurate rate possible.
There are a surprising number of excellent options available to the renters insurance buyer in Delaware, but we want you to have the absolute best for you and your family.
